My second visitor this summer arrived soon after Mom left in June - my friend Lizzie, returning from New Jersey! Lizzie lived here in London until Christmas last year. We travelled together last year to the Netherlands, France and Germany. So for her return visit, we took a weekend to visit Cardiff, Wales.
They threw a parade in our honor!
Actually it was some kind of military celebration. But I like to think they rolled out in kilts just for us!
This is Cardiff Castle, situated right in the middle of the city. It has quite an interesting history. Originally a fortress that fell into ruin for several hundred years. Until a Victorian gentlemen with too much money and too much time on his hands decided to renovate it. He basically funded rebuilding the whole thing.
My favorite part of the story is that he hired a landscaper to help clean up the grounds and make them into a nice Victorian setting. Said landscaper was named Lancelot Capability Brown. Seriously. Maybe my favorite name ever.
